In 2024 I read 82 books. Some intellectually stimulated, others gave hot goss, and a few were a waste of time. But! Even the worst of them had at least one “ya totally” moment for me. (Probably because they were all written by humans.<3)
Sure, we read to escape, but I think just as often we read to sit with ourselves, to see our own thoughts and feelings perfectly articulated in someone else’s words.
So! Here are 20 times I saw myself reflected in a book this year. I posted most of these on Instagram, but added a few news ones + context for each.
Here’s to continuing to make books all about me in 2025. 😁 I hope you do the same.

BOOK RECS! Here were my top 12 out of 82:
Intermezzo - Sally Rooney
Read if you're ready to CRY and unpack complex family dynamics—but are willing to take a loooOoong scenic route to get there.Green Dot - Madeleine Gray
If you loved Fleabag and can handle an unlikeable protagonist who, at her core, is just a girl (also, if you're hooked on Love Island Australia). The Friday Afternoon Club: A Family Memoir - Griffin Dunne
Perfect if you enjoy pausing mid-read to frantically Google the names of everyone mentioned. The Husbands - Holly Gramazio
If you believe in love at first sight, don't believe in it, or aren’t sure whether you believe in it.
The Year of Magical Thinking - Joan Didion
If you’re prepared to CRY, but are also an intellectual. The Princess of 72nd Street - Elaine Kraf
If you secretly think your mental illness makes you interesting—and/or if you're delusional.Too Much and Not the Mood - Durga Chew-Bose
If you want to read about the beauty of the day-to-day from someone who sees it exactly like you, but can articulate it much better.Little Women - Louisa May Alcott
If you haven’t read it yet, duh.The Sound of Gravel - Ruth Wariner
If you loved Educated and have the emotional bandwidth to take on another story like it.Sex & Rage - Eve Babitz
If you need a frivolous beach read written by an it-girl whose life was even more fascinating than her fiction. (Also an iconic cover to read on public transport)Crossroads - Jonathon Frazen
If you picture a movie in your head while you read, and don't mind if that movie is a 3+ hour family drama where not much happens, but a lot is felt.Real Queer America: LGBT Stories from Red States - Samantha Allen
If you want to read about marginalized lives, but in a way that won’t cause you to lose faith in humanity and spiral.
Happy reading! ✧˖°.⊹📖⊹.°˖✧
